”Pompey’s bridge” / “

Pompey’s Bridge – archaeological – historical monument in Mtskheta on river Mtkvari. Now it is covered by the river.
The bridge is called “Pompey’s Bridge”, but the bridge was built before Pompey, nearly IV-III BC, when the trade got international character. Mtskheta is located on the crossroad of international trade routes, so the bridge gathered the main roads of the South Caucasus.

In BC 65 Mtskheta and this bridge were the places, where King of Kartli Artag and Roman military commander Gneus Pompeus (Pompey) fight.
